Term 3 Newsletter, 2024

Welcome to Term 3! Classes resume Monday July 15th and we can’t wait to see everyone back in the studio. We have lots of exciting news to share with you in this newsletter.

2024 Term dates

Term 1: February 5th – March 28th
Term 2: April 15th – June 29th
Term 3: July 15th – September 21st
Term 4: October 7th – December 14th

Classes do not run on public holidays. If your regular class falls on a public holiday, you are welcome to arrange a make-up class. These must be booked within the same term and do not roll over.

A fabulous Term 2

Congratulations to all of our Upper School students who took part in the Mid-Year Concert and Presentation Week last term. We are so proud of everyone’s progress and performance and we hope you enjoyed watching the results of their dedication.

Term 3 focus

This term many of our ballet students are working towards their RAD Assessment Season which is super exciting! If your child is taking part you will have already received the assessment date as well as the preparation workshop dates. If you are unclear or need anything re-sent, just ask and we’ll be happy to help. Classes that don’t take part in exams will soon begin working on our end of year concert choreography – everyone’s favourite part of the year! See below for a reminder of all the important dates.

More new classes!

We are taking expressions of interest for 2 new classes:

RAD Silver Swans – Ballet for older learners This will be taught by Miss Yelena and is especially designed those aged 55+ to help improve balance, mobility, posture and coordination. No dance experience necessary. Please spread the word to friends and family. Here is some more info.

Parent participation Stardust classes – designed for students aged 2+ who prefer to have a grown-up in the class with them. Usually our classes start from 2.5 years, so this is an opportunity for younger kids to get involved.

If you’re interested in either of the above, please let us know ASAP as we’ll get the classes off the ground when we have enough interest.

Plus, don’t forget our Saturday Jazz & Hip Hop class in Preston at 11.45am with Miss Rose – spaces still available – we are offering a free trial on Sat 20th July – get in touch to book your place.

End of year Concert reveals!

We are so excited to announce the themes for this year’s concerts:

Stardust: Once Upon a Dream
Junior School (Moonbeams & Starlets/Pre-Primary to Grade 2 Ballet): Cinderella
Senior School (Comets & Supernovas/Grade 3+ and Vocational Ballet): Dancing Through the Decades

Scroll down for the dates and venues…

Footwear – very important

Help us protect our dance floors so that they are always in the best condition for our dancers (and prolong the life of your dance shoes!) by ensuring that dance shoes are never worn outside, and that students aren’t arriving barefoot. Every student must wear street shoes to and from the studio and change once inside the building. Warm-up booties are a fun and practical alternative that can be worn over top of dance shoes if you prefer.

Welcome to the world

Huge congratulations to Miss Rain & Miss Jojo who recently both became new mums – to Louis John Francis (Miss Rain) & Frederick Yoldas Aeby-Adiguzel (Miss Jojo). Both mums and bubs are doing well and we’re sure you’ll see them for a coo and a cuddle at the studio at some point in the future!

Congratulations Hannah

Hannah Wilson has recently performed in the Melbourne Youth Ballet Company’s production of Midsummer Night’s Dream and had the most amazing time. Well done Hannah!

Hello & Goodbye

Over the last 18 months Mr Dean has been working on writing, producing and directing musical theatre shows and with this passion taking up more and more of his time, he has brought his time at Rain & Lucky to an end. He has given us four and a half amazing years and we will miss him, but wish him well in following his dreams.

We are super excited to welcome back Miss Stephanie, who taught with us in 2022 – she has a wealth of musical theatre and drama knowledge and loves teaching all aspects of modern dance. Miss Steph will be our new Saturday Fairfield teacher. We also welcome our wonderful guest teacher from Presentation Week – Miss Katherine. After watching our junior school classes, Miss Katherine was very impressed with our school and asked if there were any opportunities to teach here. She will be taking our Friday afternoon Musical Theatre and Jazz & Tap classes. Welcome both!

Spring Showcase

This year our Spring Showcase takes place at the lovely Darebin Arts Centre on Saturday September 14th. Participating students begin rehearsals this term – more details to come.

Bring a Bloke Day

Our Father’s Day fundraiser! Students are invited to bring dad (or any dad figure) to a special dance class on Sunday August 25th at our Preston studio. As usual we will be donating to a charity through this event – this year it will be TLC for Kids. Stay tuned for more information.

GENERAL REMINDERS

Door Codes & Student Safety

While there are staff in the building, Rain & Lucky students and parents are able to access the studios with the codes: Preston: 3077 (the last 4 digits of the Preston phone number, printed on the door).

Fairfield 6724 (the last 4 digits of the Fairfield phone number, soon to be printed on the door).

We require parents to come into the studio to collect children, rather than having them meet you on the street – especially during the darker winter months.

Your direct debit

Unless you have opted to pay for the full year upfront, your monthly direct debit is charged on the 1st of each month, from February to December only. Direct debits to your account will continue until December, otherwise notified in writing to hello@rainandlucky.com. Direct debit is the same amount each month regardless of how many classes are in the month. This includes school holidays, since the payments are averaged out over the full year. One month’s written notice is required to cancel membership or reduce your number of weekly classes. Your next month’s tuition will be processed if notice is received after the 10th of the month. Any extras you choose to put on your account (eg. uniform items) will be charged to your card within 48 hours.
