Preparing For RAD Assessments

Compulsory Assessment Preparation Workshops (July 26th, August 2nd, August 9th)

 
It is mandatory for students sitting assessments to attend all three Preparation Workshops. These take place at Rain & Lucky FAIRFIELD on Sunday July 26th, August 2nd and August 9th.
 
If you miss a workshop for any reason, you will need to book a private lesson to catch up on any content missed. The purpose of the workshops is to fully prepare students for Assessment Day.

Please note, the start times below are arrival times, allowing students to prepare and warm-up for the workshops; you do not need to arrive earlier than the time stated below.

Students should bring everything they normally bring to ballet class (ie. uniform, ballet shoes, character shoes and water bottle).

Assessment Day (August 26th-28th):


Arrival

  • Students arrive at Rain & Lucky absolutely no later than their allocated time.

  • Kiss-and-drop policy – no parents permitted on site. Exceptions may be made for Pre-Primary students if absolutely necessary.

Pick-up

When arriving for collection, please wait quietly outside. Students will be delivered to you once finished.

Please note that we are unable to change dates and times of Assessments, as they are organised by the Royal Academy of Dance head office in Sydney, and are not within our control. 

What to Bring – Clothing etc

  • Brand new or as-new ballet tights (from our reception, Energetiks, Bloch, or similar reputable dancewear supplier – not supermarket/discount brands as the colour does not match).
  • Clean ballet shoes (no holes!). Consider buying new shoes in advance of Assessment day (allowing time to break them in).
  • Character shoes (Grade 1 and above).
  • Trackies/warm clothes for warm-up.
  • Water bottle.
  • Small snack if needed (please avoid big meals within 2 hours before the assessment; no nuts).

Note: Generally students do not need to wear underwear under ballet tights. If they are, please ensure it is discreet and not visible.

What to Bring – Hair Kit

  • Hairbrush
  • Hair comb
  • At least 6 hair ties (same colour as hair)
  • At least 2 new, unbroken hairnets (same colour as hair)
  • At least 20 bobby pins and French pins (same colour as hair)
  • Hairspray

We will be doing hair for students on the day. With so many children involved, we cannot provide items for everyone, so please ensure you bring everything listed above.
Hair must not be freshly washed – slightly dirty hair is much easier to style.
